Former U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, Jessica Aber, dies at 43

Jessica Aber, former U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia (EDVA), was found dead Saturday morning, according to Alexandria Police. She was 43.

Authorities are investigating the cause of death, which will be determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner of Virginia. Police responded to a report of an unresponsive woman in the 900 block of Beverley Drive around 9:18 a.m., where Aber was pronounced dead.

Aber served as an assistant U.S. attorney for EDVA beginning in 2009 and later became deputy chief of the criminal division. She was nominated by President Joe Biden and unanimously confirmed as U.S. attorney in 2021. She resigned two months ago.

Attorney General of Virginia Jason Miyares praised her contributions to public service, including her work with Ceasefire Virginia. Current EDVA U.S. Attorney Erik S. Siebert described Aber as an irreplaceable leader, mentor, and prosecutor.

A proud Virginian, Aber graduated from the University of Richmond and earned her J.D. from William & Mary Law School.
