Guests at Walt Disney World’s EPCOT were caught off guard Saturday evening as a fire broke out in the park’s World Showcase.
Videos on social media captured thick black smoke billowing over the park. A Disney official confirmed to FOX Business that the fire, which started in a backstage walk-in cooler at the France Pavilion, was extinguished by 7:20 p.m. No injuries or building damage were reported.
As a precaution, guests were evacuated from Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, a 4D ride in the France Pavilion. While the pavilion reopened before the park’s 9 p.m. closure, the ride remained closed.
The fire occurred during a peak season, coinciding with Spring Break and EPCOT’s International Flower & Garden Festival. The Orange County Sheriff's Office has yet to comment.
